About Us

Payroll Operations

The Payroll Operations group is dedicated to the accurate and timely issuance of all payroll payments to the University’s Faculty and Support Staff. This includes providing excellent customer service in answering all pay related inquiries to the satisfaction of the employee and department. Annual tax form issuance includes the print and distribution of W-2, 1099R, and 1042S forms before the IRS issued deadlines.

Payroll Accounting

Payroll Accounting includes Labor Accounting as well as Liability and Pension Accounting. The Labor Accounting group monitors the assignment of all University payroll expense assuring correct account/sub code allocations and assisting departments in clearing suspense items. The Liability and Pension Accounting group ensures compliance with all payroll tax laws, disbursements of all withholdings/obligations, and reconciliation of all payroll accounts.

About People@Columbia (PAC)

On 10/1/2004, Columbia University went live with the PeopleSoft Human Resource/Benefits/Payroll integrated system. This system replaced several stand alone applications such as PIS, BIS and GEAC with a state of the art web based real time system. It also introduced an employee self service capability allowing paycheck viewing, benefits viewing, and a W-4 update function.

Payroll Forms

Several payroll forms can be found on the Finance Gateway Forms Library as well as in the TIG (Transaction Information Guide). These 2 sources give employees the ability to download all necessary payroll forms used by both the University as well as those issued by the Federal and local government.

Pay Calendar

Columbia University issues pay checks and deposit advices to weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly paid employees. The Pay Calendar (or see lower right part of TIG main page for links) is the sole source used to coordinate and execute each pay cycle. Strict adherence to the posted deadlines is required.
