Columbia Innovation Enterprise (CIE-Finance)

Columbia Innovation Enterprise (CIE-Finance), a department within the Office of the Controller, is responsible for the finances related to the licensing of Columbia University's technologies, (a function known as technology transfer).

Science & Technology Ventures (S&TV) is the marketing arm of Columbia University’s technology transfer area.  In addition to the marketing and licensing of intellectual property, it serves as the major interface with industry, developing sponsored research contracts and special relationships.

CIE-Finance, as a close partner of S&TV, is responsible for the collection and disbursement of license income resulting from the majority of S&TV-negotiated agreements.  CIE also provides related financial analyses and budget projections, as well as manages various University initiative funds and reserves whose source is license income derived from intellectual property.
