Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning
Studebaker features an energy-efficient heating, ventilation and air conditioning system. The building’s cooling and heating systems are designed to automatically maintain space temperatures of approximately 68 degrees during the heating season and approximately 76 degrees during the cooling season, as required by Columbia University’s Indoor Space Temperature Guidelines. If a problem arises, please contact the Facilities Services Center.
Please help us keep Studebaker clean. General cleaning of the office areas, lavatories, and kitchens/lunchrooms are performed five days a week, Monday through Friday. Large or heavy trash can be collected by placing a request with the Facilities Service Center. If you have any maintenance concerns, please contact the Facilities Services Center.
We are strongly committed to recycling at Studebaker. Recyclables and trash are collected every day.
Please do your part by using the following containers:
Recycling bins are available at your desk, near the copy machines and in other designated areas for paper. They will be collected for recycling every day. Please do not throw food, cans, or anything other than paper in these containers.
Bottles, Cans & Plastics
Please use the recycling containers in the pantries and in other designated areas to recycle bottles, cans and plastics.
Used toner cartridges are collected by Staples for recycling.
Please use trash cans for food and other non-recyclables.
Recycling is one of the most important and most practical contributions you can make to environmental stewardship efforts at Columbia. Check out Columbia’s recycling guide for more information. Recycle all office paper. Saving paper saves trees!
Keeping Studebaker Clean
Items left on office floors such as cardboard boxes and other paper items make it hard to clean effectively. Try to store these items on shelving. Where possible, keep electrical, computer and phone lines up off the floor. This makes it much easier for cleaners to clean under desks and tables.
Proper Disposal of Food Waste
Any food waste left in conference rooms, offices or at workstations has the potential to produce odors and attract pests. If you eat lunch at your desk please consider depositing your food waste in a larger waste container.
Use Refrigerators in Pantries
Cubical refrigerators are not allowed at Studebaker. Please use the pantry refrigerators on each floor to store your food and drinks.
Keeping Studebaker Green
Turn off lights when leaving a conference room or workspace.
Dress appropriately for the season; wear layers of clothing during the winter months. Avoid the use of portable electric space heaters; call the Facilities Services Center for rooms too hot or too cold. Keep exterior doors and windows closed during the heating and cooling seasons, this will save energy and allow the HVAC system to operate efficiently. During the heating season, open blinds, drapes, and curtains to allow sunlight in for solar heat gain. In the evenings, close blinds, drapes, and curtains to reduce thermal heat loss.
Turn off all unused electrical appliances when not in use. Enable power-saving features on all equipment.
